Ladies Day at Royal Ascot is the ultimate millinery event of the year! And people from all over the world are watching the Berkshire race course to see all of the wonderful fashion on display. I wrote this blog post last year, sharing my favourite pieces of the day and my favourite Hat of the Day was worn by TV presenter Aly Vance.
This is a hot pink disc with an extreme sweep upwards; from the right side, it would look like a very plain disc….and then you’d turn to the other side to see the full floral decoration.
A lot of people might be surprised that this is my favourite hat of the day, due to the subtlety of it in comparison to some of the more extravagant pieces of millinery on display that day. But I adore the cluster of flowers; the density & uniformity them, as well as the lovely curve that is created at the side of the disc. In between the flowers there are delicate hacklespray feathers appearing, just softening the edges of the whole piece.
Aly has teamed this with a gorgeous cobalt blue dress & the colour blocking of this outfit works really well together. Had Aly simply worn a pink dress, this hat would have been lost; so I’m very glad she didn’t.
